I would have only given you love .

By on November 1, 2017

Everything is horrible, and I feel like my life is falling apart. There’s this rotting feeling in me, where the earth’s gravitational pull sits in the shape of a disk beneath you like the center of the universe swallowing itself in its core, silencing the air through willing suffocation.

But not to be too personal in this post, these past few weeks I have been swamped with work, which was hard to do since my glasses broke and wearing contacts all day and staring at a screen isn’t fun, juggling coursework / graduate school applications, and trying to fix my bust up life (kind of).

My bucket list for November:

Gromance’s Birthday!

By on September 9, 2017

This is a bit late post, but for my gromance (Michael)’s birthday we went to Gintei Japanese Restaurant. It was a bit last-minute planning since he was going to spend the majority of August traveling with his family to Switzerland.

This place is decently sized, but parking isn’t that great. (San Bruno, right?) We had to park in the surrounding neighborhood. But the service was impeccable!

We actually came on a special event day! They had the owner of Homare Sake Brewery there that night, and he was going around table-to-table telling people about the history of Homare and showing us some sake from his brewery. His sake won the International Wine Competition this year (there’s a sake bracket).

His sake is Aizu Homare Daiginjo (white labeled bottle) and Aizu Homare Junmai Daiginjo (left of the white labeled bottle). The Junmai Daiginjo was my favorite! Anyways, we order the appetizers that paired with the sake. I think the fish was probably my favorite out of the appetizers.

By ordering the appetizers, you get a sake cup. There was only one, and I took it. Yes, I know it was Michae’s birthday, but you know when do get to meet the owner of a sake brewery pouring you sake?

Anyways, here’s the birthday boy needing to take a photo of his meal.

For our entree, we had the special platter. There was definitely more fish to rice ratio here. A few mixed feelings about that. The staff surprised us with dessert (since I mentioned it was Gromance’s birthday day)

This is probably the 2nd nice Japanese restaurant I have been to this year. Although this place is good, and I would go again, I still liked Wako more. I went there in March for Tim’s birthday. I made reservations a monthish in advance! But I think my inner food snob is coming out, because who doesn’t like star restaurants?

If this is all we’ll ever be, I’ll just take defeat — cause I know I’d rather be alone

By on August 30, 2017
Date nights in are always nice, and it’s a good way to mix things up from always going out. Lately, I’ve been a much more indoor person. I’ve been quite tired and when I have free time I want to get some R&R.
Tim and I decided to have a nice dinner in, where we would dress up, and have everything set up like we were eating somewhere with stars. We had a bread plate with grapes and prosciutto (should have had cheese, I know). For our meal, we had some pesto pasta with green beans, tomato, and a fried egg and file mignon.
He was surprised I made all of this or more surprised with how I set it up. Props to me!
But anyways, we ended up drinking wine from Bonny Doon (it’s a winery that’s in Santa Cruz). The decoration at the wine tasting room was really unique! They even had a spaceship (mainly due to one of their wine’s history)!  I remember liking Cig Alt E. when I was there for a tasting, but I don’t like it so much now.

My consistency has been lacking with this blog, but I haven’t given up on it yet! It’s been such a whirlwind this past month, but some updates:

-My apartment is finally completed and everything is furnished and decorated (Thank you so much, Tim!). I’ll do another post with images.
-I have a second project at work! It’s very different, but it’s nice to have two things to work on side-by-side.
-I have lost weight! I’m really glad I started DietBet’s Transformer Challenge. So far, I have lost almost 10 pounds (9ish).
-I have finally started working on grad school applications for master programs.
-The temperature here in Livermore has been so awful. It has been fuming hot, and it’s supposed to be worse over the weekend.
-The current news lately has been making me [insert adj]. In the mix of all that’s going on, I’m hoping Houston will make a rapid recovery (and that the relief bill will pass), but those affected by Hurricane Harvey need our help. NPR has narrowed some ways people can donate to help.  I agree that donating to the Red Cross is great, but your dollar can often go further with smaller organizations!

Let’s Meat

By on June 26, 2017

I started off this summer with my boyfriend’s graduation. His family came from Texas and SoCal to see him walk, so the leading days to his graduation we traveled with his family meeting old friends and doing some sight-seeing.

But the following week, I went to eat at House of Prime Rib! I don’t think I have eaten here for over a year or so. Every time there’s an occasion, I am out-of-town. Regardless, I never have had a disappointing dinner here. The past couple of years, this place has been really busy (not that it wasn’t busy before). The Food Network featured them, and then a huge fluctuation of people started coming. Before, I believe I could walk in and wait maybe 30~45 minutes. Now, I don’t think walking in is a wise decision.

House a Prime Rib is a classic staple in San Francisco. Though it is a nice restaurant, it has an inviting casual ambiance. I would definitely recommend going here if you’re in the city!
